Full description
An unusal way to find out more about East Berlin during Cold War.
Born in 1963 in East Berlins district Mitte, I grew up in a Stasi-household and went to school close to the notorious Stasi prison in Hohenschönhausen. I would like to invite you on a 3-hour-tour to places of my childhood and youth in the former GDR-capital. Historical pictures as well as stories from my memory will give you a deeper insight into the society of a sunken state. Let me share with you the reasons behind my voluntary service in the Volksarmee (National People’s Army) as officer cadet, my subsequent dishonourable dismissal and finally my “Service in Socialist production” (as bus driver and book seller). The lethargy of everyday-life as well as the exciting times of rapid changes will come to life on this tour. What became of me? Decide for yourself ...!
