Descripción general
Learn more about Mitte, a district with a lot to offer.
Berlins district Mitte has a lot more to offer than Brandenburger Tor and Museum Island.
Behind the magnificent facades of Germany’s capital we take you on a tour to corners of this central district which you surely do not know yet. North of the famous plaza Gendarmenmarkt, we stroll through the historical bourgeois Jewish quarter ‘Spandauer Vorstadt’ and August Borsigs industrial area ‘Feuerland’. In the 1840s (time of industrialisation), the majority of Prussia’s steam engines were built here. Discover with us hidden court yards and back streets, some of them neatly restored for the newly-rich, others still resisting the harsh winds of social change. Find with us existing and exhumed graves of Prussia’s top rank militaries in the shadow of the former Berlin wall.
A little gem towards the end of the tour will be the impressive animal anatomy theatre on the grounds of Berlin’s oldest and largest hospital - the Charité.
