Descripción general
Learn more about the special role of Berlin during the greatest disaster in German history: the Nazism.
The twelve years that the Nazis ruled Germany have left their mark everywhere in Berlin. This tour focuses on the capital city's special role in the rise and fall of National Socialism - the greatest disaster in German history. Most of the regime's headquarters were located near the then lively Potsdamer Platz, in Wilhelmstraße. The spine-chilling exhibition 'Topography of Terror' is one of Germany's most honest examinations of the thorough planning of the persecution, deportation and extermination of millions of people. Let us show you what impact the Nazi-regime had on the capital when we take you on a journey to the Olympic Stadium of the 1936 games. At the Bendlerblock (former headquarters of the Wehrmacht) we talk about the resistance group around count Stauffenberg. The remains of an old bunker demonstrate the Nazis' effort to transform Berlin into a fortress.
Follow us into the Bavarian quarter, formerly known as 'Jewish Switzerland', where among others Albert Einstein lived and where we will discuss the development of the Jewish persecution. The memorial Track 17 was one of the main sites from where tens of thousands of Jews were deported to the concentration camps with trains of the Deutsche Reichsbahn.
